Evaluating Websites

Five things to consider when researching with the Internet (aka The CRAAP Test!) ~

  1. Currency: When was it produced? Last updated?
  2. Relevance: Ask yourself: what do I need? Can I use this information?
  3. Authority: Who is the author? Who published the documents? Are any qualifications listed? Are sources cited?
  4. Accuracy: Is the site full of grammatical errors? Does it cite data without giving a source?
  5. Purpose: Who is the intended audience for the site? What are the goals? Are there opinions or other biased information presented?

If you cannot answer these questions satisfactorily, reconsider using the information as a source.
