Art and Art History

Research resources in the areas of Art and Art History

Databases for Art Topics (mostly peer reviewed)

Art & Architecture Complete -- Provides full-text coverage of 380 periodicals and more than 220 books. In addition, this database offers cover-to-cover indexing and abstracts for more than 780 academic journals, magazines and trade publications, as well as for over 230 books.

BHA and RILA -- Search both the Bibliography of the History of Art (BHA) and Répertoire international de la littérature de l'art (RILA) at the Getty site. The two databases cover European and American visual arts material including articles from over 1,200 journals. Since this free database has no links to Knox subscriptions, when you find an item you want, search for it by title in Knox Primo. Links to the full text may be in Knox Primo, but if not be sure to click the "Request the item via Tipasa interlibrary loan" link.

JSTOR -- A full text repository of scholarly journals and books. There are over 200 journals in the areas of art, art history, and architecture in JSTOR.

The Masterfile Premier database covers popular magazines and news sources. Sometimes an artist's work may be written about in these types of sources if the artist has more popular appeal.

The Getty Center's catalog has a wide variety of material in it: journal articles, books, auction catalogs, images, and materials from their archives. This is a freely searchable database, and some items may be there in full text. If no full text is available, when you find an item you want, search for it by title in Knox Primo. Links to the full text may be in Knox Primo, but if not be sure to click the "Request the item via Tipasa interlibrary loan" link.
